I would just let the plant go as it wants. The more foliage and vine you have the better it can support those pumpkins. If you have a part of the vine head into an area you don't want it to, there are two ways to handle it. First, you can simply pick up that part of the vine and toss it back onto the main plant. It'll straighten itself out and be just fine. The other way to deal with it is to pinch out the growing tip on the part of the vine as it enters the "forbidden zone." It will sent out shoots behind the growing tip and tend to slow down its invasion of the "forbidden zone." But really, pruning never helps with production.
