white plastic bag under gourds question

I have been putting the white plastic bags under my gourds and my husband thinks it is causing them to stop growing plus there is always water on the bags and he thinks it will make them rot....Will the water puddles hurt the gourds? Will it make them quit growing? Thanks..NH

Well in my opinion it would be like cooking them.
I know i have left little plants in bags that I have dug
up here and there and very shortly they are cooked if not
replanted real soon.
You might try some mesh stuff for weeds or if hanging I like
to use panty hose they make great slinks and stay pretty dry.

IDEA! what if you made a small hill of dirt with the plateu on top then put the bag and then the gourd. The water would drain away wouldnt it? My gourds arent big enough to experiment with yet.

OK ? Whats the idea behind the bag anyway?
Anything plastic against the gourd will trap
the water and cause a situation that might rot the gourd.
Anyway just my opinion I don't like using plastic.
