George - Your buffalo gourd should do just fine in PA. I brought some seeds back from Colorado 2 yrs ago and planted them in an experimental habitat at my daughter's school. Last summer we had vines, but only a few gourds [-15F last winter]. This summer it's come back with a vengeance and wants to take over it's area. Perhaps the warnings about its invasiveness should be heeded. Its range includes OH, but I don't think it gets into PA. Regardless, I doubt that you'll have any trouble [and it takes no care whatsoever!]. In CO we'd find it next to roads where other plants find it tough to live. I'm just hoping I haven't introduced the 'northern kudzu'. Donn

Thanks for the response Donn. I'll try some of the seeds next spring to see if the ones from my collected cannonballs are mature enough to grow. I might even try to winter sow some. Your comment about it being found near roads and such is exactly where I found it in Oklahoma and west Texas. Generally growing in road ditches with no competition but the tumbleweeds. I love the leathery texture and that gorgeous blue grey foliage.
