Ornamental Grass

Pampas Grass division

Could someone please tell me if it is possible to take a piece/division of a very large clump of pampass grass without digging it up or having to prune it?

A neighbor has a huge clump that was never properly divided and is rangy but I'd like to get a few plants from it if someone could tell me how to go about it.

If you look close, you'll probably see smaller clumps in the shole big mess. Dig up one of those by "cutting out" the section you want and dig that out.
Make sure you go straight down to get plenty of root. Should work just fine.
