The neck pumkin is simply a unique form of the butternut group of squash. Harvest technique is the same, characteristic tan color, hard skin, drying stem. I usually leave all winter squash on the vine until the vines start dying back. While these things get big, they can be used in any manner calling for winter squash. Pies scalloped, baked, puddings etc.

anyone know a good source for the seeds? I seem to be hitting a dead-end with my normal seed companys that I usually get them from (out of stock or crop falure) Thanks in advance. If anyone has any the are willing to send that would be nice too, but let me know where they can be purchased from thanks.

I found PA Dutch Crookneck squash at Seed Savers. It is considered to be a "neck" pumpkin.

I have not grown the Pennsyvania Dutch Crookneck, but photos seem to indicate a Cushaw shape, while the neck pumpkin has a long slender neck with a small bulb end reminescent of the Trombocino. I have grown the Golden Cushaw , which is also a butternut and it bears no resemblance to either.

Found a 2 yr old pack of seed in shed as I was cleaning it out. Im going to test to see if the seed is viable. Farmerdillia, they are the same thing as I was looking for. If my seeds dont prove viable any longer I appreciate you giving me the website as that is what im looking for.

The classical test is to try and puncture the rind with your fingernail. If you can't, then the squash is ripe.

That's what they look like. I guess the similarity to a regular cushaw is subjective. Here's sazji's link.
