Sprouting

OK, here's the thing. I've just recently become OBSESSED with daylily hybridizing (watching those seed pods grow!), and today received a bunch of seeds from LA. I've read EXHAUSTIVELY about how you all, and others, germinate your seeds, none of these systems seeming to be right for my VERY limited space, limited indoor light, gentle winters, late springs, etc, etc, etc (as the King would say). And some of the LA seeds are from 2008, and looking fairly wrinkled.

I'd love to try just planting out in the garden when the weather cools down, but I don't want to loose any of the GORGEOUS crosses I've bought. I could easily do it with my own free crosses that I could always try again next year.

So this is what I'd like to do: soak all of the purchased seed (and I'll think about my own seed) in the peroxide mix-wetted vermiculite in the fridge until they all look puffed up. Then in Jan, winter sow them in strawberry clamshells in the yard.

Some other options I've thought of are: trays of rocks inside the aquarium canopy where the temp gets about 80, and the light--- well, light. Or on top of the aquarium in peat pellets, where the heat is underneath like a warming mat, but no light.

Love to hear what you think, especially any of you who are in the PNW.

Thanks everyone,

Janet
