Hi Gourdena, I hate to tell you this, but you may have ruined your gourds. If the vine hasn't started dying off the gourds may not be mature enough to survive. Don't worry about frost or freezing damaging your gourds. IF they are mature, frost/freeze won't hurt them. If they are not mature, then frost/freeze will cause them to rot which they would anyhow. I had some last year that were overlooked and not found until after winter was over. Many professional growers leave their gourds in the field until early spring before harvesting them. Cutting the larger gourds off so the new, tiny ones will get more vigor from the vine is not a good idea. They will likely not have enough time to mature and you are taking what chance the larger ones may have to mature, away. I would suggest joining the American Gourd Society and your local state gourd society. Both are good sources of information and help. Good luck and don't get discouraged.

What part of Texas are you in and what type of gourds are you growing? I'm near Ft. Worth and we won't have a freeze until early Dec. at the earliest. Leave the rest of your gourds on the vine. I've read on this forum that freezes don't harm the gourds. The recent cooler temps. have caused my gourds to begin to grow when during the summer heat, they weren't growing but at least they didn't die.
