LOTS!

Seriously, they recommend you leave about 6 - 8 feet between plants, so figure on them spreading at least that much. And if you're going to have them growing on the ground, you might consider getting some pallets once you get gourds to let the gourds rest on so they can get air circulation around them. Good luck!

I don't have much sun on my yard, maybe a couple of hours. Will this be enough sunshine to raise luffa gourds? I have a chain link fence, which I intend to plant them by. Any help that you can give me will be appreciated. I have never raised gourds before.

lots and lots of room. whatever space you plan on, figure on the gourds doubling it. i am planting some gourds in my front yard next spring. they will be on a telephone pole. i already asked my neighbor, an she said fine. dh griped about all the room they took up, an where all they grew. coz this summer they took over our pool deck and privet bushes, too. i will prolly get griped at next summer, too, hehe. you should have fun with them. they are pretty easy, if i could grow them. :)

Jennifer, my husband is griping, too. I told him I wanted him to build me a trellis so we can put on the side yard. I think I will start out trying to grow ornamental gourds. Maybe they won't take up so much room.

I have lots of shade, only about 2 to 3 hours of sunshine per day. Will this be enough to grow luffa gourds? I have never grown gourds before. Any help will be appreciated.
