Questions about my acorn squash harvest

I grew 2 Mesa Queen plants that are supposed to yield nine fruits at 3-4 pounds each. Instead I got at least 20 fruits per plant at more like 1-2 pounds each. Very tasty I might add. Why would I get many small fruits instead of fewer larger fruits? Here's a pic:



There's a Galeux D'eysines in that picture too. The picture does it no justice at all. It's a beast!

Below is a picture of some little bugs I found clinging to the bottom of many of these squashes. Could they be too blame for the small squash size? What are they?



They're quite small, like a quarter of a ladybug, and not very numerous, like 2 or 3 on each fruit. They did seem to be attached to the squashes via feeding mouthparts.
