Bet it's Zucchetta Rampicante, a c. moschata often used in place of zuchinni.

Concur: also known as Trombocino. Butternut family but most often used young as a zucchini substitute.

So it is a winter squash?
Because if it is "in the zucchini family" as the farmer said, it would be summer.

Appears to be a winter squash. It probably needed more curing time for it to sweeten up. Had a pink banana squash last year, they are supposed to be one of the sweetest, it was very bland. Some one told me I did not leave it age long enough.

Many winter squash are used as summer squash. The Trombocino/Zucchetta Rampicante is widely promoted as an SVB resistant zucchini. It's not but most often used as a zucchini substitute. As a winter squash it is not as good as other butternut varieties. The one in the photo appears to be a bit too mature for use as a summer squash and not as mature as it should be for a winter squash.
