I have seen a few gourd candles, but don't have any actual instructions for making them. The candles were in the center of a sand-filled gourd bowl, and appeared to be poured, rather than placed in the bowl. They were very pretty and something I would use on the patio or front porch.
Will the gourds burn, yes, and usually very quickly. The gourd bowls were about 8 inches across, with the candle in the center. Hope this helps.

I have not made gourd candles for the reason that Jan mentions.The gourd will burn and I think it would be just too dangerous to put wax and a wick in a gourd.I have made candle containers from gourds.Cut the top out of the gourd and decorate as desired,then sit a candle in a glass container inside.One that will be even with the top of the gourd.I am in the process of making the electric candles in gourds................Lillie
