I use the little fine saws that came with my mini saw and have done great with the thick or thin gourds. If the gourd has a thick shell I just make sure that I don't push too hard on the saw as it goes around the gourd.

I have found out that I definitely have to use a fine blade. I found a site which gave instructions on how to use scroll saw blades to make blades for the min-jigsaw and they work really good and are lots cheaper than the blades for the mini-jigsaw. Thanks for your reply. It seems we both prefer the fine blade.
