Just out of curiosity.... Maybe I'm strange for having caught this reference at all. But I wondered if anybody had been inspired to grow birdhouse gourds after watching or reading "Cold Mountain". There's a scene in which Renee Zellweger's character advises Nicole's that she needs to string up some gourds for martin houses to keep away the crows. Does this work? And did anyone see it and think, gee, I gotta make me a gourd martin house? I did, but I only got one gourd, presently curing on the patio table.

No, never seen the movie.
This was my first year to grow them and how I discovered them was on ebay. I was looking for tole painting books and one turned up about gourds, really didn't know they exsisted. Well I started looking and searching buying this book and that book on info or crafting, BUT never bought a gourd other then 100 of these 1" & 2" to play around with.
Went crazy on buying seeds and planted them on my hands and knees after breaking my back in April and now waiting for them to dry out to paint, carve, put holes in and so forth.
Waiting, and waiting waiting.............
