Nice gourds, nice photo. I am so jealous. But congrats...how many apples, did you count them?

Jennifer-Nice gourds.What will you do with them when they are dry?If you are interested in selling some I would be interested in some of the apples.I have a really hard time finding the apple gourds and have a lot of requests for birdhouses made from them.Let me know if you want to sell some........Lillie

Those are some nice apples! Have fun crafting away on them, seen one once where it was made into a carmel apple pencil holder, to cute.

i am so glad the picture thing worked out. that was my first nervous fear. whew.. got that out of the way. :)

jan, i *think* i had, um... 35? dh said he counted 30 on the pool deck steps there. but that might have included the bottles, too. i planted 3 or 4 vines, an got all those. dh is all happy now. the first frost came, and he was all gleeful tearing down the vines, so we could see the pool again, as well as our poor privet bushes. (i kept reassuring him that nothing will kill a privet.)

lillie, i will definitely keep you in mind, then. :) altho, most of them are itty bitty. i was thinking of making a string of lights with the small ones. either with a halloween or christmas theme. i didnt get too many good sized ones. what kind of size is good for a birdhouse anyway?

thanks sandy for the nice words. this was my first attempt at growing gourds. i had no idea what i was doing, heh. plus, i grew them from seed, from a trade here from gardenweb, i think. that was before i knew i was spose to keep records. learn some, and then learn some more, huh. :)

Jennifer-Your light idea sounds cool.You could just paint them like apples and use them inside in your kitchen or something year round.Maybe over a kitchen window or on a wall or in a silk Ficus tree or some other large plant??
I use the ones that are about 6 to 8 inches tall for birdhouses.The smaller ones make cute little pencil holders(teacher's gifts)and candle holders or just in a gourd bowl as a centerpiece.I'd be interested in any that you want to get rid of so thanks for keeping me in mind.I don't know why the larger apples are so hard to find.I have some apple seeds that I plan to plant and try my hand at growing next year.I don't know what I will get though as the seeds are from some apples that I made birdhouses out of last year and I have heard they don't always produce the same kind of gourd for some reason.Hopefully I will be successful.Of course that doesn't help me right now!LOL..............Lillie

lillie, 6 to 8 in? oh.. mine are at least that big. i thought they were small. shows how much i know. i guess i was thinking they needed to be giant in order to be birdhouses. i get to learn something new each day. i have about 4 that are a really nice good size, then. is this the hard part? waiting for them dry out?
