Lemon Cucumber Gourd?

Hi! First time in this forum. I'm going to try gourds next year.

Once I grew a lemon cucumber vine and forgot one outside. Next spring I go outside and there is this dried round shell.

Is this normal?

Can I do this with other cucumbers or thicker skinned veggies?

I wouldn't count on it.
Do you still have the lemon cucumber? I wouldn't think it would keep very long. If its still around, I'd say its just a fluke of nature.

Yep, it's still around. I can't hear seeds rattling around inside but it's been about 2 years now, that I've kep it as a pot decor.
