In Apruil I planted 6 heirloom tomato plants I got from White Flower Farms in Connecticut. I weatered and weeded diligently,set up ladder plant supports, and most of the bushes look pretty good and have lots of green tomatoes on them. I count nearly 40 green tomatoes over six plants. One of the plants, however, Mr. Stripey (supposed to be green and yellow stripes) looks pretty bad. The plant itself is shorter than the rest, has about 6 small green tomatoes on it, but the stems and leaves look like they're dying. What should I do? Apply extra water? Harvest the tomatoes, pull up that one plant? I don't see any sign of disease or insects, it just looks very dry and the leaves are turning brown. Any suggestions? As I said, the other 5 plants look very good. I am in Long Island NY. Zone 6. So potentially I could leave this plant where it is for another 3 to 4 months.
