It may even go into shock for a while. Both varieties of hibiscus I have did that. It took a few months for the to recover. After they came out of it they regained their leaves and had literally hundreds of blooms.

I had a big problem with flower buds dropping off just before they opened last year. Someone on the Florida Gardening Forum suggested it was caused by a tiny burrowing insect and that it's a fairly common problem for hibuscus. The solution is easy - sprinkle the buds with Sevin dust! I tried it and within a week had beautiful open flowers. I don't have to use it often - maybe twice a year, but I keep it handy just in case. I only use it when I start to have a problem and then I sprinkle the plant pretty liberally.

If you want to test for the bugs, take a couple buds and put them in a ziplock bag. Leave them overnight, then check the bag the next morning to see if they've crawled out of the buds. Tiny, tiny, green, wormy things.

In this case, if you are talking about actual "flowers" as opposed to "buds" that have fallen off, this is normal. Hibiscus flowers only remain for a day (although sometimes in cool weather, they'll hang on for another day or two). When you only have a few, it's sortof sad to see them go!

If the "buds" have all dropped, then definitely a change in their conditions can cause them to abort.
