hmmmm....what can you grow now that you've always wanted, but didn't have room for?

How steep is it? Good for a small fruit orchard? A collection of dwarf fruit trees? Terraced beds? Perhaps a garden of grasses, laid out in zigzag across the hillside, showing off colors and textures?

thinking of Raspberries.. The hillside gets only morning sun and I figure if they come through and cut them down again they will come back. They may actually be doing me a favor.
I have room for more then just raspberries it is 109 feet and very steep. I have been adding leaves by the bagfuls to cover the soil and keep the erosion down.
I would love blueberries but they seem so ph sensitive.

I think raspberries would be great, but remember they spread by runners. So, unless you want the whole hillside in raspberries, plant at the bottom of the slope.

I grow blueberries in pots, due to space issues in my urban garden. They do prefer an acidic soil, but they do okay at neutral. What have you got? Will aluminum sulfate once a year give it the boost they need?

My sympathies. The power companies never do their cutting with any care. It's a blessing and a curse. New opportunities have arrived but at the cost of more work and worries at least in the short run. Since LIPA might cut down any new trees you might try some suckering shrubs or trees that spread and hold your soil and can withstand the occassional hacking. Some terracing might also be needed.

Hi, Here's a tree cutting story that may make you feel a little better. Only in California, lol. The fire dept. in Glendale, CA. said that these trees had to be trimmed for fire safety, then the city stepped in and leveed unbelievably HUGE fines on the homeowners for trimming the trees. Now, the city council members have left this couple in limbo, saying that they'll make the final decision on the amount of the fine whenever they get around to it. Great! Good luck on your slope.
