I think it is at LEAST in the same family, Thonotorose, though the leaves don't seem to match, as they seem more finely "cut" than TSA. TSA is solanum varium and gets pretty large. I've seen them sprawling around disturbed vacant lots, and the thorns are WICKED, btw. And they do get fruit which looks like cherry tomatoes. But I know there are several varieties, so don't know for sure which one this might be. I love that one person thought it was sandspurs (or sand bur)...I know it's not THAT, anyway!

The tropical soda apple I am warring with seem to have a bit more surface to the leaf. It appeared everywhere I tossed some FREE cow manure and in the pile. The root goes to china. If I dig it I grab it by the root or get thorned to death.Burning with a weed dragon also helps but needs to be repeated. The site I checked says one apple yields 50,ooo seeds! It is not a vine like most squash but can be quite tall. The thorns are even on the top side of the leaves.

TSA is very invasive in cattle pastures. It's on the do not sell, trade, transport list in FL.

Interesting . The above photos do not look like our Florida Soda Apple but the big yellow fruit on a lower photo sure looks the same. What evil plants !
There are 4 weeds that grow in my pastures that all have thorns and / or stinging , burning parts . Eliminating them is a real challenge . You can bet if the cows won't eat them , they must be horrible weeds . Prickly pear cactus anyone ? You can have all you want right here !

What you have is buffalobur. it is a thistle also known as Solanum rostratum Dunal, I have enclosed a link and here is a picture which I think is exactly what you posted. Linda
