I hear peppers can be grown in 2 gallons, I use 3.5 gallons and they will still suffer if you don't keep the container soil cool...fine line between sun for the plants and shade for the containers if the containers are small.

Thinking it makes a difference how large the pepper plants are - some stay small, while others can get pretty big. Check the height for ea. variety. I had an Aji Dulce plant that was almost 5' tall in a big tree-size nursery pot - it lasted me 3 years. I often plant a 2- 3 plants in my largest containers.

& I do prefer to use large-ish containers for peppers - I understand it allows the roots to stay cooler than in a smaller pot.
