Winding Down

Just a few to post, as things are rapidly winding down here:

PHOTON TORPEDO, my favorite late bloomer:

EAGER TO PLEASE, looking much improved (although still too sunny to get a a good pic):

WESTBOURNE SULFUR SPRINGS, looking nothing like the hybridizer's photo:

SUNRISE SUNSET BEAUTIFUL, a Carpenter blooming at normal height with huge blooms:

TEN CENT WINGS -- Can't figure out why this one has bloomed so short since it's been here:

BLOSSOM QUEEN, a good-performing old late:

WAITING FOR PEACE:

Wow, I love Sunrise Sunset, and Ten Cent Wings, even if it is short!

Glad to know that Sunrise Sunset Beautiful bloomed at normal height for someone! I love the blooms but ( probably weather related - drought and heat) blooms were barely above the foliage this season although it bloomed profusely. It has done this for two years in a row and I'm ready to dig it up if it does this again. Nice images!

You may be winding down but what you have still blooming are gorgeous.

Cnris they are all beautiful as always. My favorite is SUNRISE SUNSET BEAUTIFUL. When I got it that picture I just stopped and stared. So very pretty.

Beautiful group today, as usual! Photon Torpedo is my favorite.

Too difficult to choose a favorite from this bunch. Does Sulfur Springs always look like this in your garden? The hybridizer's photo seems to be a darker, richer color.

    Thanks, everyone.

Floota, I just counted the number of Carpenters I grow (30), and only four bloomed at their listed height this year. Some of them I'm shipping out, but I'll probably give a few another chance. It's one of my pet peeves in daylily habits.

Mantis, yes, Sulfur Springs always looks this way. I think I bought it on the Lily Auction from the hybridizer, but the photo was much more pink than the one on her website.

They are all pretty, my favorite is Waiting for Peace, but what really caught my eye was that orange down in the corner of the picture of Sulpher Springs. Any idea what it is?......Maryl

Maryl, that's an oldie by Moldovan called Magic Dragon. It bloomed about 6" off the ground this year, which I'm attributing to the drought we suffered much of the summer. It's a real attention-getter.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a Westbourne that didn't bloom like the photo. I have a couple that I'm hoping by next year they look like what the hybridizers photo represented. BTW, your photo kinda looks like the one I've got that also didn't represent the photo.
This is suppose to be WESTBOURNE KIRBY KIDS PLAYTIME

I have SUNRISE SUNSET BEAUTIFUL and it bloomed just fine here and well above the foliage. It is new this year so we shall see how it does next year.

    All great photos.

I've had SSB for 4 years now and it is one of my favorites. I love Carpenter's daylilies. I'm planing on adding more Carpenter's to my collection as soon as possible. If your interested in selling any of yours, please let me know. I'm aware that I probably shouldn't mention selling anything on here, but since I want to buy, I hope it's ok.

I think I have about 5 or 6 varities already and they all bloom really good for me. Of course, my Mississippi heat is alot like Texas so that probably has a lot to do with them being good.

We got about 3 inches rain yesterday,Yahhhhhhhooooo!!! The first in nearly 2 months to amount to anything. Today we got another 2 to 3 inches. I feel so blessed. Yesterday we had a temp of 105 that dropped to 75 in less than an hour during the rain that being the lowest temp we had in like 2 weeks. I know everyone is having high temps so I haven't complained but I did want to share our blessing. I hope that ya'll get some relief very soon.

    Blessings to all, Mona

Thanks Chris. I've marked Magic Dragon down on my long list. It sure looked nice paired with W. Sulpher Springs. I'm assuming under normal circumstances the scapes are a more normal height on MD?........Maryl
