That looks way cool. A good way to grow herbs too.

Neat. I wish I had more room...

I wonder how they kept the soil in the ones sticking out? I like the look!

Now that is DANG SKIPPY! I'll be saving this post to my favs, way cool!

They dry out very quickly! I have used cinderblocks a lot for planting, and if not watered daily, the plants suffer terribly. I've used them for flowers and herbs. Maybe it is my std potting soil? What soil are you using?

Lisa

That's not mine Lisa! It's an idea I got off the web. I plan on doing it eventually and I was thinking of using succulents for it so the drying out won't be too much of a problem. I have no idea how they keep the dirt from falling out the ones that are open. Ideas?

Hi
You can use hardware cloth held in place with silicone .
If the holes are too big you can add some fiberglass window screen though a layer of pine bark works well also.
Succulents are great but for more water demanding plants you can add a drip irrigation system or a simple sprayer at the top. built into the setup. Thought of using something like that for strawberries but was thinking of making it of Hardi board. gary

Really neat-o! I like it too - wondering about how to close the bottoms of those bricks myself - perhaps a piece of wood or a tile & some adhesive/caulk w/ a hole or 2 for drainage?

Love it great idea BTW all my kids are in John Day and they are freezing hahahaha gotta love Oregon

Well, now that I looked there are TONS of them posted out there...I don't have the time tonight but surely some of them state how they manage the bottoms of the block.

This one is currently pictured on page 16....

Tom

In just 60 seconds at the original site I found a good link on closing in the bottom ;-)

Tom

Hello
What's the matter with my idea?? Have used it for many years Cheap simple last forever. gary

Gary, I read your post and that is the way they did it in the link that Tom posted except they put landscape fabric on top of the hardware cloth. You could also put screening.

Hi
They stole my patented idea!!! the main problem I found with them is the heat. Dry out in 10 minutes in full sun. if I were to build another think I'd skip the concrete and use conposite decking, hardiboard would allow for more soil as well as add a irrigation system. gary

So, I'm for sure doing this sometime soon! I was wondering though . . . has anyone had any good experiences buying plants on ebay, etsy or any other site like that?
