can we do a split leaf philadendron throwdown??

I had so much fun on the Staghorn Throwdown thread...can we do another?

I was at my friend's parents' home in Miami (about 30 min south of me, down the street from where I was born and raised) and I saw this huge THING! It has been in their yard since they purchased the house, just over 42 years ago!

That is my 11 year old daughter standing in front of it. The thing is HUGE! This is one of those plant types I never gave a second look to, because they are everywhere down here. All of a sudden, I have really been taking notice of them, and want to plant a few in my yard.

Anyone have a split leaf phil bigger than this guy?

BTW, I am going to be VERY embarrassed if someone informs me this is NOT a split leaf phil. It is, right? Right??

This plant is genus Philodendron .
It is Philodendron selloum but the common name is Lacy- tree philodendron.
They grow 'em big in South Florida!

That looks like either Phil. giganteum or evansii.
Probably P. evansii because more people were growing and selling it. True P. giganteum is rare.

thanks guys! So...it is not a "split leaf"? Or are you saying that it just has several names?

Is in not a "Monstera Deliciosa?""

I am new to gardening and new to even paying attention to plants at all. I am kind of confused by the multiple names.

Wold love to see some more pics of big guys like this!

Ok, I have done some googling just now. I guess it is indeed philodendron evansii...and I see that it is indeed different that split leaf phil.

I love this forum, I am learning so much!

Sooo...let's make this a philadendron throwdown thread! ANY phils that are big...post pics!

    P. Evansii is a hybrid of P. selloum and P. speciosum. I wonder if it inherited the cold hardiness of it's parent P. selloum?

dm - the photo was taken in Jamaica at Couples San Souci. No, it's not me, it's my wife. And it's not a Philodendron.

Geez, I was just wrong, wrong wrong! LOL.

Not a Phil? What the heck is it? I am getting so confused! I see it grows more "up" than "out."

So funny, I just assumed that the person in the picture was named "Fawn."
