Moving hosta beds - planning

If you have to move extensive hosta plantings, especially mature clumps as I have to do a time or two over the past 25 years, find a "friend" who will let you heal them in for a few years. Prefer high shade trees but lacking that, look for moist ground and put up shade cloth.

Here is one bed with 100's of clumps put in together, bed about 30 feet wide by 100 feet long. Near a creek on bottom land, you can see them in June 2006, after three years.

We moved these clumps into the new terraced gardens featured in the other Hosta Forum posting with photos I just put on.

The ostrich ferns were the ones my mother obtained from Tennessee and Maine back in the 1970's - I still have many of them - very hardy and easy to transplant.

Of course no weeding in these beds, located a long ways from anyone's home.
