Corn snakes are generally red, but if not, their markings are bars, not diamonds, so I'm guessing rat snake. I can't see the head well, but is that a baby snake next to it? Has it made a nest in there?

I just made it to the computer today for a brief moment, and what do I find? A snake ID! Love it! Gary, I can't see this picture as clearly as I would like, but I THINK this is a pine snake. I hope Wayne stops by for a quick look to confirm or correct me, but that's my best guess. And for sure, it is NOT anything poisonous, so no worries on that score. It doesn't look quite red enough for our corn snake, somehow, but it does look like a pine, as far as I can tell. Also called a bullsnake or gopher snake.

Thanks for the responses, didn't see it myself, my wife called me from home about it. Pine is what it seems to be so far, and we have many gopher tortoise dens and longleaf pines, which are its desired habitat. Although it said they prefer dry habitats and ours is moist.

Wow. Definitely a Florida Pine Snake! They are RARE and listed as a threatened species of special concern in the state of Florida.

They are gorgeous snakes that can get quite large, but they are harmless.

Marcia is right again. And I am confirming that it is most definitely a Pine Snake.
