amending soil

I am getting ready to make some new bed on the side of my house by removing all the zoysia grass. We have sandy soil. What should I amend the soil with? I plan on planting a peach tree (Tropic snow, blueberries (sunshine), and several vegetables. I would like to start it now so it will be ready when I am ready to plant. Thanks

a contentious topic... i'll start.

i would amend with mushroom compost, readily available all over central fla. more important, tho, than direct incorporation of organic material (imho): heavy mulch, using the cheapest stuff you can find...

I always use the inexpensive bags of compost at the big box stores, as well as potting soil. Does well for me.

bagged compost is great... it's just that when i buy bulk compost form my local landscape company it runs 30 cents per forty pounds... the same stuff at lowes costs 3 dollars!
