I've read that this palm is prone to lethal yellowing, but don't have any personal experience with them.

Smell the area of new growth and see if the frond pulls out. If it stinks and the fronds pull out wet, you've got Crown Rot and the palm is dead.

no, the frond didn't pull out. no smell.

Then I would wait a few months and see if there's another new frond that comes out green before doing anything to the palm.

I think that is good advice from fawnridge. I had a similar thing with two picabeen palms about two years ago. In my case the terminal growth did come out, so I expected the worse. In desperation I poured some copper fungicide into the cavity. Maybe a month later both palms put out a new growth and lived happily ever after. Well not exactly, this past march one of them froze to the ground. I've found that once a palm is really dead it will give you plenty of indications.
