Favorite Hosta?

Hi, to everyone from up in the frozen north of Wisconsin! The past week or so have been -10 below! Just a tad bit on the cold side. So I have been doing alot of hosta searching! It's quite addictive! Just wondering if each of you have a favorite hosta and why? With so many out there I have a hard time choosing a single one!

I have so many different hostas I love for so many different reasons. I think I'd have to pick one for each "category". I'm going to do my "kneejerk answers" otherwise I'll be pouring over my list for two days and you'll never get your answer. LOL

    So:

Greens - Jade Cascade (close seconds, Flower Power, Montana Macrophylla, Green Fountain...oops...just one...LOL)

Blues - Krossa Regal - yep...the "oldie but goodie"...stunning at maturity!

Gold - I stare at King Tut all of the time so I'd have to say him...I also love Maui Buttercups

Green w/ Gold Edge - Frances Williams...really...it's the first one that comes to mind and now I'm going to stop thinking. *grin* I know it can get fried edges but it's just beautiful.

Green w/ white edges - Probably Silk Kimono. This is my least favorite color combination in general. But then there is Alligator Shoes...and Wolverine...but maybe that's more cream...

White center, green edges - Sea Thunder

Tricolor - Oooh...tough but I think Fire Opal...Summer Music is really nice for me too...

    Gold w/ green edges - Ok...I don't know. I've just shorted-out. LOL

This is awful...I can't pick one!!! Here are a gang of my all-time faves:

Jade Cascade (might be my #1)
    Flower Power
    Green Fountain
    Anything Montana
    Anything Tokudama
    Guacamole

There are dozens more...but that's good for now. ;)

Hope I didn't just make you crazy. LOL

    Welcome to my world,
    Andrea

I can't narrow it down to one either.
Here is a few favorites right now
    June (love the colors)
    Pandora's Box (mini)
Eskimo Pie (new one For Me)
Abiqua Drinking Gourd (Love the Cupped Leaves)
    Alligator Shoes (Great leaves)
    Sun Power (a stand out)
The list changes as the season progresses but these were favorites of mine last year.

It's not really possible to pick one but here is one (of many) of my favourite. This is Inniswood in all it's changing glory...

    {{gwi:941057}}changing glory....

I have so many favorites but I'll narrow it down to my six favorite today...LOL

Earth Angel - for its size and irregular blue/cream margins

Elegans - stately and always impresses visitors to my garden

    Eskimo Pie - beautiful coloring

Ice Age Trail - love that streaking! I bought this late last summer from a local grower and it was so tiny I thought it was a mini...until I got home and read up on it. I think I'm going to be in shock when this baby grows up!

Jewel of the Nile - for the unusual variegation

Olive Bailey Langdon - large, round seersucker leaves

Can you tell that I am a sucker for the blues?

Char (also in Wisconsin, but Hey! 40 degrees coming this week!)

I'll be the first to commit to just one and say Guacamole. It is a hosta with everything. Fragrant flowers, vigorous growth, and well varied coloration from leaf to leaf.

i thought we just did this but i will play again with just one

    Guardian Angel

A tough one but my favourite has got to be June - in the sun or in the shade (you get two different looking hostas that way...:)

    Ok...being good...just one:

    Jade Cascade

McTavish, Those are great pics. I like the way you present them. A couple of Gold Standard side by side are in close proximity to my Inniswood, and they experience about the same changes that you have shown.
I enjoy those hostas that change color throughout the season...Paul's Glory...Paradigm...to name a couple.

I like it when they change like that too. Inniswood is right by the entrance to the front door so I see it all the time. I also like the ones that look so different depending on how much sun or shade they have. Midwest Magic is so subtle - sort of olive green, gold shades in the shade but the colors are quite bright more like paradigam in the sun. It's like two different plants.

Ademink, You and I seem to love the same hostas, Jade Cascade, the Montana's one and all - do you have pycnophylla? I saw it on Hosta Valley web site and it looks great - a flowing, graceful looking solid green. I'm pretty sure I'm going to add it to my order from Naylor Creek (when will it end? never is my guess). Anyway, I'd love to hear your opinion or anyone else's about this plant. Thanks McT

You did say favorites, right? Paul's Glory. Inniswood, Olive Bailey Langdon, Guacamole, Pandora's Box, and Fair Maiden for now. I'm sure there will be new favorites this summer and more in the future.

Hi McT! No, I don't have it but I need it now! WOW...isn't that awesome?? I just looked it up and love that first pic.

I just printed out a list of the montana progeny from the HL last night and was looking them all up. I need therapy. LOL!

How about sending that list to me and telling me which ones you have? myrlet@telus.net. Your encouragement just caused me to put pyn.... on my "for sure" list. It is a great looking plant isn't it? I need therapy right along with you. I was working on completing one of my orders this morning and commented to my husband that it's sure nice to be sitting in bed, drinking coffee, and SPENDING MONEY. He's sweet, he just laughed.

Summer Breeze and Niagara Falls are two top faves for sure.

I can't decide but when I asked my husband. It took him 20 seconds to respond "Paradise Glory". This photo was taken three years ago so the plant has changed a bit. He thinks it's dong well because our airconditoner water trickles on it. Later, Love, Lisa
