Carol--What you are describing is what are called "June blooms". They usually occur in July. The fruit that comes from these blooms are inferior. They are usually very pithy and the edible portion inside is smaller as a result. The fruits end up being the same size so you don't see the difference until you cut the fruit open. If you see these fruits forming it is best to pick them off if your tree has set enough fruit.

This is normal and nothing you did caused it.
