I let my australis get just a little dry between waterings. A little. I got mine (australis v. tenuipes, that is...) as an EA plant from Home Depot and it had overgrown the pot hanger. I took it home and thought about trying to untangle it, but it was obvious that would be an impossible chore. So I cut the hangers off, set it on the floor under a 3-legged trellis because I don't like the look of a climber once it reaches the ceiling, and this way I don't have to climb a ladder to trim it! It's an aggressive grower, that's for sure!

Mine gets dry very quickly. Now it's spring I try and water it twice a week, but I have quite a large plant allready.
You could try and let it hang, but it definitely likes to grow up and up - mine found the hanging retusa the other day and has twirled itself round the hanging basket... sigh!

I know what you mean, Hills. Mine had grown way above my three legged trellis and this spring, I just whacked everything above the trellis off and put it in a pot to root. That, of course, has encouraged new growth. My intent is to keep the upper-most growth whacked to force it to put out new growth lower. Hope it works because I hate having to constantly keep it from glomming onto other plants to climb!

Hey Denise,

Your idea directly above is exactly how I try to contain my larger Kerrii, otherwise it puts too much energy into the 3 ft. long bare stems getting even longer. I keep hacking it back annually to try & divert the energy into the base growth of the plant. They are determined ;>) !

Thank you, I guess I will get a trellis, actually I have a heart shaped one about the size of the one in Hills pic. It is good to know if I whack off the ends it will make it bushier. Is that the case for any Hoya?
If I can grow mine as well as you I will be a happy camper.
