Door color

We picked out the orange and grey, the yellow came later, and was bolder than anticipated, but we like it. Now I wonder if the orange and yellow aren't so great together. Should we paint it black or leave it orange?

I think it works! Although I must say, your house looks like it was photoshopped.

Once you get some shrubs in the flower beds it will distract from the door, which I think is fine, maybe planted pots along the driveway. Overall I think the colors are fine.

I hate to say white almost as much as red but.... I think i'd paint the door white and purchase some nice black carriage style door hardware to match your garage doors. The lighting on the garage seems a bit too small. I'm trying to wrap my head around the three different gable colors. I'ts not that I don't like it, I just don't know why I do....frightening

I think it looks pretty great! I agree, though, you need landscaping something awful! ;)

Thanks for your comments. I totally agree about the lighting. $$$ issue. The landscaping is in progress. It's draining the life out of us. But it's coming along.

Hi, the orange door is an excellent color to compliment the siding, but the yellow is competing with it, consider painting it the same beige/gray color as the siding.

What color orange is the door??? Thanks!

I would get rid of that yellow. It's distracting and drawing attention to gables that don't need the attention. Put the attention on your front door. Paint the yellow out the gray-green body color. Paint the door brick red to tie in your red used brick.

Right now, you got too many colors going on.

I agree with Shearer Painting 1000%! I think the colors are great, but the yellow is just a bit too bright. I think if you went with a different shade it would look so much more cohesive and not so chopped up. Get some extra yellow paint and add some large pots in the front painted the same color to tie everything together. The orange and grey look great, I think the yellow is the culprit throwing things off for you. Good luck!

I like the idea of toning down the yellow or Dytecture's suggestion. The orange front door is perfect!

Love the door...not a fan of the yellow. It distracts from the overall beauty of the home for me.

Agree with Dytecture and I would do one more thing. The peak over the front door should be gray, also. Leave the columns white.

Love the house and the colors. What about painting garage doors the same gray as siding?

I like the orange door , but the yellow is a bit much, and my eye actually goes to the bright white canopy above the door rather than the door itself because that is the area of greatest contrast.

I think you need a chunky pendant light for the entry, and some sort of color on the gable there. Toned down buttery, yellow-orange or mustardy yellow might work, Or maybe a type of tan/taupe that relates to the lower siding. The garage doors could be painted too--perhaps to match the siding

You have sort of a Neo-Bungalow, but the profile is quite different and more chopped up and stylized than a 1920's Bungalow. That makes it harder to make it look unified, especially with a lot of different colors and textures. Toning the whole thing down to more related colors could be the ticket.

Don't think the shutters are helping either--esp. in contrast to the yellow. Alternatively, you can paint the big gable white to match the front entrance, and the little gable the same color os the siding to bring the three smaller gables in harmony. Or go with a light tans to subtly define the gable interiors from the trim and tone down the contrast. for the big gable and the door gable.

Even thought that maybe a nice mellow medium Tiffany blue/touqoise might work with all three gables (the yellow ones and the one above the door), then the door would be the complement.

This is a house where you can have a lot of fun experimenting with Sherwin Williams or another paint program. The masks are a little tricky to draw and load in, but it is pretty cool once you get it set up, especially since your base colors are set up.

Sorry, I meant to check that color and get back to you. I can't find the can. I'll let you know if I see it.

    How tasteless.

Please! Reduce that yellow, it is blinding!

I feel you could keep the yellow and the orange if you painted out the garage doors the same or 50% pigment strength of your current siding - I assume you would have more or be able to get it easily. I would leave the portico white. I feel the white, orange and yellow would give you a unique fresh playful look.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, most of them were very positively worded. We know it's not for everyone, but we're the kind of people that would rather do too much than not enough. I hate houses that all look alike.
I agree that it should be toned down a bit, but since that would cost more money, and more borrowed friends, it will probably stay for awhile.
I'll play around with some of those other suggestions.

i love the door!! What an awesome color.
I think it looks great. Keep it for a while and see if it grows on you. I would plant a few shrubs and trees along the walk way.

I think painting the garage doors might unify it somewhat, as suggested.

Thank you shakalaka, I feel the fun yellow is accented and the orange framed with the white makes all of the elements sing their own tune so to speak.
