they sell such at the big box store to retard moss growth on roofs ... it MIGHT be cheaper than a plant store

that said... it questionable whether they work in the garden ...

check out the FAQs for slug hunting techniques..

Thanks Ken. I will check the FAQs for slugs. Barb

work for me....get mine off ebay....only problem is they dont stick to terrocotta pots!...also wrap them around old irrigation pipes and then bend them around the emerging hostas.

I think I'm going to give copper a shot!

I'm going to the home improvement store now to get some copper flashing and I'm going to cut it into strips to make rings.

I like the idea of a more permanent solution, but I've read that it has to stay shiny for it to work.

UK... Have you also had that experience?

Ok, after a trip to Home Depot, I've come up with this:.

The roll is 8" wide by 20 feet long and costs $38.40
If I make strips 2" x 24" long, that'd give me a ring
I could get as many as 40 rings at about 7" diameter. Each ring would be a little less than $1.

Anyone think it'd be worth it to go to the trouble of cutting all that flashing?

thisismelissa...the copper strips work even when they go dull(after about 2 weeks),which is good as they are abit shiney to start with!

With about 1200 hostas in our garden, we'd go broke using copper, that stuff has gotten waaaaaay expensive.

Besides, we witnessed a big ol' slug climb right over a 4" high copper strip at a garden up north of us one day a few years ago.

Disbelievers,
