sounds like lemon grass to me. use for cooking also.

Probably West Indian Fever Grass, similar to Lemon Grass.

There is also a grass that grows about 6inches high along the road sides in Taylor county FL that has a strong sweet burlap smell. Its very strong in the fall when it blooms and seeds. The seed stalks about 2 ft. I want my whole yard planted in it. Im never going to mow again- This grass is a clumping low growing and golden in the fall. And smells heavenly.

PS I wish I knew the name- i need about 2 acres worth of seeds.
