Krimson Queen question

Is Krimson Queen supposed to be a slow grower, or is it just mine? It seems to have done almost nothing since last fall. I was under the impression it was not a slow grower, but even the stubborn cranky hoyas that looked like they were having problems (var. macrophylla and subcalva) are starting to do something. My nongrowers are Krimson Queen, brevialata, and pubicalyx 'Chimera', but Chimera looks to have had a pest problem, and brevialata at least made an attempt a couple months ago. Just curious. I guess I'm just surprised to see no signs of new growth at all. It is in a south window.

My Krimson Queen does grow slow, but I've had her for about 11 years now, so she has grown quite a bit, I would say they are slow growers.

It's been my experience that variegates are slow growers comparing them to their green counterparts. And even more so if you have a lot of leaves that are more cream than green. Here's a cluster of leaves I just took a photo of yesterday...

I usually cut these all-white/cream leaves off once the plant starts to slow down or quit growing. It take a lot of the plants energy to sustain those leaves.

I agree that my Krimson Queen is not one of my faster growing hoyas either. Since mine was purchased already an 8"(EA) basket...I don't trim the beautiful cream leaves on mine since I really don't want it to grow any bigger anyways. I'm happy to see the blooms and would rather not see it get any bigger...or at least I'm happy it doesn't grow fast.

I just love those cream colored new leaves, don't you Denise? It is so pretty...I just can't seem to cut mine off.

My Pubicalyx makes up for the slow KQ...that one is going in a 12" pot next...I can't get over how fast my RHP is getting! I almost wish I can plant it in the ground...but I think the freeze will kill it!

I think it really depends on the plant. By & large, I'd agree that KP can be a slow grower, & I've had several thru the years, that's usually been the case.

However, the one that I have now (got locally a couple of months ago), is growing like crazy, throwing both new vines & loading them w/ leaves. Interestingly, on mine right now, it's the mostly cream growth that's going so fast. I'll try to take some pix over the weekend.

It is weird but my experience is that Krimson Queen is an excruciatingly slow grower but my Krimson Princess is a rather quick grower.

Ok, now I don't feel so bad. I don't know where I got the idea that it was a faster grower, but it's ok if it doesn't grow quickly if that is normal. It means it won't outgrow its spot so soon.

Those white leaves are pretty, Denise. I wonder why it decides to grow those? I sometimes get very white leaves in my variegated African violets, but not with hoyas so far. My Krimson Queen does have a really odd shaped leaf right now. It looks kind of like a misshapen holly leaf.
