South is ok if it's not too close to the glass or if you have a sheer curtain to take some of the intensity away. South sun can be pretty intense, so just make sure it's not full unobstructed south sun.

One of the best flowering carnosas I ever saw was my step-grandmother's - she kept it in her kitchen window above her sink (facing north, believe it or not!!) I think it was all that humidity from being above the sink, and probably the great vibes she gave off as she spent so much time there. Ah, good memories!
