Macrophylla variegated leaf to share...

I almost lost my Macrophylla variegated this past winter. I had it in the garage and got cold damage, lost about 50% or so of the vines/leaves. Happy to report its coming back, have several new leaves and recovering nicely. Thank goodness some hoyas are pretty tough plants!

Thought I would share one of the prettiest leaves I've ever gotten from this hoya...too bad the color will eventually turn green. Thanks for looking!

Pug! That is FANTASTIC! Isn't it crazy, how the leaves start out, sometimes?

I just love these leaves - I believe I purchased this plant based off of previous pictures you posted, but I can't remember now. They look almost like a mood ring in action. I think they're quite pretty mature, too.

According to a quick internet search of mood color keys, your plant is now feeling lovable (and a little fear) ... and the older leaves feel mixed emotions and romance. ^_~

That's wild! I wonder how long it will stay like that, before turning green. Thankfully, mine has grown in a new variegated leaf, so it isn't going all green. But it has never grown a pink leaf, for sure.

I'm happy your variegated macrophylla is recovering nicely for you! Does it live outside all year round? And does it get a lot of light? Just curious.

Wow that is COOOL! I love the variegated varieties! That way when you dont have flowers you always enjoy the foliage! GREAT plant Pug!!!

Thanks you guys!! It is my favorite leaf ever on this plant!

Carolyn, it is weird how some leaves grow...never seizes to amaze me.

Mood ring, ha, ha, I haven't thought of that in quite some time. Too funny, thanks for the trip down memory lane GG!

Quinn, yes I do grow this hoya 350+ days a year outside, when we had our brutal record breaking winter, I brought this one inside the garage with a lot of my plants...I though it would be okay there, apparently next year I will have to bring it inside the house. I have this one outside in my front entry way...lots of very bright indirect light, especially since that wall is white and reflects a lot of light also. The leaf is already starting to change color, so I would say not long enough sad to say. I bet by next week it will be green :o(

Thanks Regina, I think most of us that have this hoya ranks it pretty high up on our favorites...especially for the leaves! This is one of the few hoyas where I wouldn't mind if it never flowers.

Such a gorgeous leaf. Mine never got that pretty. Good growing.

Thanks Jan, maybe the key is to "almost kill it"(accidentally)like I did...Just kidding :o)

    Pug,

I'm betting it will be equally as beautiful when it loses the pinkness. All the pink should turn to a nice cream. You'll have to post a follow-up when the leaf matures and loses it's new pinkness...

My variegated mac was acting weird this spring and had new growth that didn't look variegated, so I took a cutting of the all green & rooted it. Interestingly, the new growth on that cutting went back to variegated! I didn't think that happened...

That is a pity that the leaf won't keep that color -- pretty thing

Thanks Denise, that would be great if that's what happens. I will post a follow up picture once it matures. That's interesting about the cutting you took, hoyas are always surprising us, especially the variegated ones. Thanks for letting us know, I didn't know that can happen either.

I agree Paul, sad it won't stay like that :o(

Pug, that's a beautiful leaf! Too bad it won't stay that color for long! I like how there's a red band on the green leaves. Hmmm, maybe I'll give KP away and let macrophylla take it's place!

Pug that's a beauty of a leaf. It's a pity that they slowly turn green, have a few like that myself but it's nice while it lasts.

Five days later already starting to green up

Today...looks just like the rest of them.

Wow, Pug, the picture of the entire plant is awesome!! It's hard to believe it suffered any damage from this past winter....it looks huge!! Way to grow!! Fondly, Patrick

I agree with Patrick, your plant has really made a come back!

    Thanks Patrick and Mike!

I'm very pleased with its recovery...it gotta be due to all this heat and at least 90% Humidity we've had for the last four or five months,lol...Plants are loving it, me NOT so much!
