I love the large leaves. Has it bloomed for you yet?

    Wow! Big leaves there!

No blooms, yet, but those leaves are bigger than my hand, and not even mature. They were the size of my thumb a week ago!

Ahhhh - just when I thought I was done ordering hoyas this summer. Carolyn, those leaves are beautiful. They have an elegance to them that most of the other larger leaved hoyas do not. If you ever have an inkling to trade...

Wow Carolyn...look at those large leaves. They sure have grown! Great growing!

Those are beautiful Carloyn, nice colour to. I love this leaf shape where the leaf base is narrow and elongated.

    gennykins - as soon as it's large enough . . .

Thanks, guys! I was shocked when I saw it. Those leaves were facing an East window, so I hadn't really seen them, until I turned the plant around to put a new trellis in. Crazy what we find . . .

All the others I bought at the same time have grown tons, too: coriacea, sp Thailand, padangensis. They have all put out new growth and required a small trellis in place of the small wire hoop.

The only one that just never seems to grow is sp. square leaf. hmmmm . . .

    Great link, Mike!

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you did your research but that looks like just the sort of plant I'd buy based on pretty sun coloration or something and then once it arrived I'd be all: OOPS /guilty look

Honestly, I think some of my plants I'm just going to have to accept never having blooms on and just enjoy their leaves and keep trading away cuttings to keep the giant things at a manageable size.

I wonder why your square leaf isn't growing. Are the leaves firm and cardboard like? If they are soft, maybe it's the roots. I had that problem with mine. It arrived all dehydrated looking, and continued to go downhill until I took cuttings and restarted it. Now it grows well.

hahaha! Honestly, I bought marginata because I liked the name. Really ...

And the square leaf, well... the leaves are as they should be, and I think it FINALLY has a few vine coming out. Go figure!

Marginata always reminds me of margarita, so maybe that's why you like it...

My square leaf took about 6 months to decide it wanted to grow, but once started it has behaved, so I bet yours will be the same!

GG - that MIGHT very well be the reason I picked this . . . mmmmmmm, margaritas!!!! OH, I mean . . . um . . .no, of COURSE not!

I've had my square leaf for about a year . . . and just this week, it started looking good. Go figure! hehehe I moved it for the fourth time, last week, and I guess it likes this spot. Who knew?!

:) And GG, are you going to answer my email about 'Ruthie'?

    Carolyn

    NEVER!!! ^_~

    WELL! That figures, too! hehehe

Maybe if we talk about their failure to do anything it will embarrass them into growing. Like: Man, my cinnamomifolia doesn't do anything. All the hoyas around it are growing like mad but it just sits there.

(Ok, let's see if this works...)

I have surrounded pentaphlebia on all sides with publicalyx cultivars. Let's see what happens. >_>

    <_>>_>

GG-If you lose your pentaphlebia, I'd be happy to root you one. Mine seem to root easily. :)

Aw you're such a sweetie, Carolyn.

Mine rooted alright (although I'm definitely going to put it in my answer to to the "CBNI Cuttings" thread) but the problem is that the leaves are so battered from the traumas of travel and rooting that it's possibly the ugliest Hoya I have atm. So, I am VERY much looking forward to the day when it starts growing, so the gorgeous new growth can overtake the stress-ravaged leaves that are currently keeping it alive. xD

I haven't actually had it that long, so it's not really misbehaving, I'm just impatient for it to look like the beauty it really is.

I DO remember how they look when you first pot them. Very sad, indeed. hahaha

I have a plant that's been here for over a year . . . maybe two (stupid computer that ate my spreadsheet). The new growth is soooooooooooo beautiful! I love those rippled leaves.

    Carolyn

Oh phew! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has experienced the ugly duckling Hoya.

& That's a good reminder for us all to back up our databases. ._.b

Oh and speaking of plants that need to be shamed into performing, I'd all but given up on the latifolia var concolor I got from TG this spring, but when I watered it last night... thick new vine hiding behind those giant leaves. w00t!

    I wanna see!!!

    Carolyn

LOL You're so sweet. Well here's my new latifolia var concolor vine. Only impressive to its mama (me)

    Love it!!!
