From what I understand, the chances of having any hummers during the summer down there are not as great as they move northward to breed, lay their eggs and hatch the babies. Her best chance of hummer activity will be maybe spring, fall and those that overwinter down there. Growing plants to supply natural nectar will increase her chances of having hummers hang around.

I have poor results getting hummers to visit a feeder. I am in PBC and have put in every hummingbird attracting plant I can get my hands on! I have a winter visitor for the second year. But, all they seem to like is the plants! Coral honeysuckle, cape honeysuckle, firespike, pentas, porter weed, salvia, turk's cap etc....

I used to live in northern Palm Beach County, and the only plant in my yard that was visited regularly by hummers was the coral colored porter weed. A friend in my neighborhood there had a large pink powderpuff shrub and Turk's cap hibiscus that hummers absolutely swarmed over in the fall. Here in Central Florida, the biggest 'draws' in my yard are coral honeysuckle, red Bottle Brush, pineapple sage and cuphea purpurea. So, to answer your question, yes: If your daughter plants the right nectar sources, she *can* and *will* have hummers in Zone 10.
