The adult male birds are already leaving some of us here in Central Florida. Females leave a couple weeks later, followed by the immatures. However, they may linger on the way if they encounter colder weather or find an area with lots of nectar to store up on.

I would go ahead and put it up. Check out the migration maps to watch where they are.

I'm near Elizabeth City and put mine out 2 days ago. It's probably too early, but I was hoping I might see an early migrant :) Christy

The migration maps for the last several years show the first hummer reports in NC from mid to late March, so you can put out the feeder early but you probably won't see a hummer for a few weeks.

Its sorta like the old army slang "hurry up and wait". It doesnt hurt to put up a feeder early. Last year there were 3 march sightings in indiana and even more april sightings in my general area but still none for me and this was driving me up a wall. So I was not to see one till april 25 and even that was a record for me. In looking at the migration map I cant tell that they are any earlier than last year, they appear to be on course. One thing is for sure if a hummer does happen to fly over and no feeder is out you just might miss out. Then also if you have a feeder out you could still miss seeing it if you are not available to watch. I dont expect to have a hummer till very late april but that wont keep me from launching a feeder early in the month.

Put them out!!! the migration map is goin insane!!! I live in Phila PA and some hummers apparently already passed me by!!!

seems like its gonna be an early, and hopefully longer, season :)
