I'm in south Texas and hope to see the first of them next month. But we have temps forecasted in the eigties next week, and I put out one feeder yesterday, just in case. Wishfull thinking, I'm sure.
I'm worried about the continuing drouth we have here. Nothing is green yet, and if we dont get rain, there wont be blooming plants to help move hummers north.

Rob I keep a couple of feeders out all year round. I see my first arrival the second week in March. Or that has been the way it seen the past 5-6 years.

Just remembered I need to get my window feeder up for them. They always come looking for it.

We saw and got a photo of the first Ruby-Throated on March 27 in Granbury, Texas. The migration is on! Yesterday we got a picture of a Black-Chinned, although the first one was on March 20, we didn't start to see them regularly until March 29.

Hello to Granbury, Tx from San Antonio. RTs and Black Chinned showed up here in mid March. Males first. Now lot's of females.

The RT's have mostly moved on (to Mimi, Donna, and Barb's areas. I'm envious!). But I'll have a few RT's and lots of Black Chinned for the rest of the season.

This year's photography goal is to get just one good picture of the purple band low on the Black Chinned males throat.

Do you have hummers yet? Good luck with your hummer season.

Hooray! Saw my first ruby-throated here today in southern NC. He had a great sense of timing-I had put up fresh food less than 15 minutes before.

We saw one this morning and it returned late this afternoon. We put up 2 feeders a few weeks ago, a hanging basket last week. After this morning's sighting, my husband added the window feeder where I saw it this afternoon. Too many shadows to tell if it is male or female.
