all you need is a mister. I have seen them for sale at Home Depot and Lowe's in the past. I have a garden sprayer that has a mist setting on it. I sometime attach it to a stake pointing it towards my plants to give them a gentle misting and the hummers fly through it and then sit on the plant leaves to preen their feathers. Sometimes the simplist solutions work just as well. You can also get an inexpensive bubble and make a pot fountain.

If you like the effect then you can go to something more expensive. I purchased the nozzle with several settings including the mist setting for less than $2.00 at WalMart. Last summer I converted an old galvanized washtub that someone threw out to a water feature. I put a Large plastic tub in it that I bought at WalMart for about $5.00. It is the same size as the tub and fit just right inside the tub. Then I added lots of rocks and pebbles. I got a small pump and put that down in the tub and filled with water. I ran the water tube from the pump up a copper pipe that I curved over the handle of a metal watering can so the water goes up the tube and into the watering can and out the spout onto the rocks in the tub. All the birds enjoy it. I rapped an artifical vine around the copper pipe to conceal it and this year I will have Great blue lobelia growing around the tub.

Penny, how big is the tub ?? Do you think a solar pump would work??

Penny, what did you do with the cord? Is it real close to an outlet, or did you run it underground? GFCI outlet?

I think the tub is about 2 1/2 ft across and about 12 inches deep. It is dark out so I can't say for sure but it probably holds 12 to 15 gallons of water. They don't have to be that big but that is the size of mine.

I was lucky enough to have an outlet right where I am putting the water feature so I can plug it in right there. I think I read that if you have to run a cord then you should bury it inside pvc pipe underground.
