I gave one of my good friends a hummingbird feeder last Christmas. I couldn't wait for spring to come(this would be LAST spring) so that she would have hummingbirds, too. Every now and then I would ask if she saw any and the answer was always no. Well, just past the middle of the summer, we had a party in her backyard, and it was just before dusk, and there, with at least 30 people in the backyard, we spotted a hummingbird at the feeder. Do I think that was his first visit? NOPE. But it was the first time she SAW him! I was so pleased to have been there for the excitement, and I'm hoping that she will see lots more hummingbirds now that she really BELIEVES that she will see them! And it's funny - no matter how uninterested people may seem when you talk about them, I have never met a person who wasn't thrilled when they actually SAW one. Here's hoping we all have our little friends and their families with us soon.
