I have a leptodermis that I planted in poor soil about 4 years ago. It does have a mild scent and looks like the type of flower that would interest a hummingbird. I don't know because mine is in the front of the house. It does attract hummingbird moths.

The plant is easy to trim so you can keep it relatively compact. However, mine suckers quite a bit. I have to cut back the sucker roots from the plant several times each Summer. They will stretch several feet away from the center of the plant. That is the only drawback that I can think of and it is enough for me not to recommend it.

Thanks, chesco. Sounds similar to my clerondendron; will have to weigh the options there and site appropriately if I decide to go ahead and plant it. Fragrance and hummingbird attracting is tough to combo in a plant, so I'm tempted!
