I'm in Central Florida and I've seen one Ruby-throat for the last four days. It looks like he's going to stick around.

Two years ago two males arrived almost the same day and chased each other for months. Last year one male appeared on March 6th or 7th I believe. About two weeks later another showed up and then the females followed.

I've got lots of flowers blooming, but they seem to prefer the coral honeysuckle. It's their favorite in these parts this time of year.

Great news! Last year my honeysuckle was a favorite all summer once they got going. If I could only have two plants for my hummers it would have to be the coral honeysuckle and my salvias. Everything else is icing on the cake.

I really want to start a salvia garden on the opposite side of my fence right next to my patio. Maybe I'll get started on that soon.

My coral honeysuckle is still showing no signs of life and it has been really warm here lately between 65 and 85 DTH. ASAP I'm replacing because it is a must have. Anybody tried the manderin honeysuckle? Supposed to be similar but fragrant.

Congrats, Tom! I haven't seen any since that first sighting, whatever it was. I have lots of hummer plants, including coral honeysuckle, cigar plant, lots of salvias.
Maybe I will be lucky to have one pass through and decide to stay.

It's just a question of time, Mary, if you have the plants eventually they will show.

I'm frustrated because I don't have the time to be out in the garden in the afternoons lately. Too many other things to do.

I usually see one in the morning a little after dawn.

Congratulations Tom !

I kept my plants alive and blooming until that last hard frost we had just a couple of weeks ago. Once again I had to cut most of my plants almost all the way down to the ground . I don't think I'll even go through the trouble of covering next year.

I still do have my coral honeysuckle blooming and begging to be tickled by a hummer.
Like you, my schedule leaves almost no time for the yard.
I was out today , but most of the week, it's after 7:00 when I get home.

I should be "Hollering from my Rooftop" in the next couple of weeks though. last year I believe it was almost tax day before I spotted one.

Be still my heart!! While I was busily tending my butterfly/hummingbird plants on Saturday morning, I looked up to see a beautiful hummer dining on the blossoms of my red bottle brush tree. He seemed to be in a big hurry, so, hopefully, he flitted off to spread the word that there's good eats in Sanford.

They're here too! I'm about 60 miles NW of Savannah. Saw the first one yesterday. A chubby male.
