Hummingbird Garden

Nepeta (catmint)

Last summer while sitting with friends in a building's garden atrium, we saw a Rubythroat hummingbird taking nectar from a Nepeta (catmint). The plant was about 18 inches tall with bushy vertical form, and masses of deep blue flowers. Almost Delphinium blue, if I remember correctly. I'd like your opinion on what type it may have been. Thanks.

Dave, there are several that fit that approximate description....nepeta subsessilis Blue Dreams, Nepeta sibirica Souvenir d' Chaudron, Nepeta racemosa Walkers Low, a few named selections of nepeta faassenii - all roughly within that flower color and height. I wonder if it matters which....

They will feed at n. Walkers Low here - that is when the neighborhood cats haven't smashed it, I have a problem keeping cats away from nepeta, will even climb up and shred it when growing in containers on my deck where I tried n. Little Titch :(
