they are here!! hooray :)

i first saw them a few days after april 1st, although my feeder had been out about a week or so, and i hadn't really been sitting there watching, until that day.

but now that this one guy has found it, he's hooked... he's now coming every 10 minutes or so. my feeder is the basic kind by perkey pet that is shaped like a light bulb, with a flat-ish red base. i think he prefers this one over the newer one i got (which is the 4 fountains kind, with perches) because the nectar vase part looks kind of yellow? anyway...

i saw the female only once, the first day, and have only noticed the male since. i am pretty sure he is a black-chinned variety-- he's VERY tiny, and his head & neck are all black, grey body with a light white stripe down his belly. i think it may actually be more than one male, because the one i see the most has an all-black head, and sometimes i see more of an maroon iridescent gorget on the front of the neck (at the base of the black)... so that could be a different bird altogether. i'm wondering if the all grey w/ black head one is a juvenile male?

i have also seen out of the corner of my eye, a bright green one with a flash of violet, but that one is a lot shyer and buzzes away before i can get a good look.
