Saw our first female two days ago, and yesterday saw the U-dance out between the trees in the back of the yard. They aren't wasting any time this year!

I just saw my first male about a half hour ago. I've been out there planting a great big bed for them. Only one rose bush for me and the rest basically for them and some of the butterflies that seem to stick around my yard. I even got a little water fountain for them so I'm hoping that will get their attention a little more. I'm thinking of hooking up some kind of mister in my hummer corner but I'm not really crafty.

I am so jealous! I am in northwest indiana and it's 35 degrees here. I can hardly wait for warm weather, my hummers, and my garden and it seems like it will never happen. Last year was my first year feeding hummers and I am buying more feeders and planting only flowers for them! So thankyou all for the great information, beautiful pics. Ihave enjoyed them all so very much.

I am enjoying watching a nest being built on my front porch in a ficus tree. This will be my 3rd season watching the nesting and nurturing of a hummingbird family.

Do you think it could be the same family?

Great, now we're all going to get ficus for our front porches.

Leslie, I always plant mainly for them. I get some roses for myself and of course the gardenia in front of the living room windows so I can open the windows and smell them, but mainly the rest is hummer food. We also get tons of butterflies so I do keep some of their food around, but only maypop in the very back yard for the cats. Can't have them eating all my hummer food when they stray from their herbs. Thinking about putting some of the herbs in pots though. Another project, another time.
