Is Agastache Hardy in Zone 6?

As I cleaned out my bed last night, I noticed 3 perennial somethings appearing. The old memory ain't what it used to be. I do remember planting 3 Agastache Tutti Frutti in a triangular pattern last spring which matches the emerging growth. Since these 3 became such monsters last year, I doubt anything else could have been in the area. Maybe it lived.

Have you found agastache to be hardy?

Many agastaches are hardy to zone 6 and tutti frutti is one of them if it is in the right locattion and if it was planted early enough for the roots to be well established.

I have Agastache 'Desert Sunrise', Agastache cana, and Agastache neomexicana and both survive in my garden in Zone 6. The last two winters have seen temps in the teens and single digits here, albeit not for extended periods.

It was a warm winter, but the coldest day (4 degrees) was in mid December. Early cold is usually worse. I guess I'll just wait and see. Of course, I've already planted new agastache.

My potted "Tutti Fruitti" kept some sprouts around the base of the dead stems almost all winter, then by February, they started wilting but new ones sprouted. Now those sprouts are getting bigger so it's definitely alive!

Ava and Shades of Orange died. A. cana and Desert Sunrise lived. I would take cuttings by early August because some of the plants lose vigor in the fall and won't root or thrive.

Desert Sunrise made basal growth in the fall and lived - the ones that died just faded away in the fall.

LOL Harry,, you aren't the only one! My fiance buys every single prennial he sees,,, and our little cottage is looking like a forest. I am finding I love all the "little surprises" that bloom all summer. Have fun!!

I plant lots of stuff, DW adds some and then our visitors think that we need more as gifts. So in spring its a memory game. I care for them until I realize I am nurturing a weed.

My A. rupestris "Apache Sunset" returned, as well as A. cana and A. nepetoides. I'm not sure about my "Tutti Fruitti"; I haven't noticed or checked yet. "Honey Bee Blue" was shortlived, only lasting 2 years, but there is a possibility that I yanked the seedlings in an Obedient Plant tactical defense plan. I had purchased about 6 "Acapulco Salmon & Pink" (just labelled as Perennial Agastache) at Home Depot 2 years ago. They were identified here on GW. 3 were in a large container, but never returned. The other 3 were in the ground, in 3 different beds. One never returned in 2005, but the other two did, and those two are returning again this year, although one looks bad.
