Did you change it at all during that 10-14 days?

Bleach does a great job at getting rid of mold. I change mine every 4 or 5 days right now, but in the summer it is every day or two. Even with frequent changes I am surprised what I see sometimes when I look in the base of the 209 with a flashlight. I do about 10% too and do a good amount of rinsing.

Steve, I have to change mine every 2 to 3 days during this time of year, and during the fall migration, every day!

BTW, the hummers are going crazy down here right now. You should be getting them soon.

Ken-- I try to change it once a week or less while Im waiting.

Linda-- Actually the earliest I have ever had a hummer was last year on 4-25. So still waiting

Steve, I cleaned my three feeders tonight and found mold in one of them. I was really surprised this early in the season. I mean the highs are in the seventies, not the nineties!

You guys have me worried. I think I'll take mine down again and soak them in bleach. Sigh.

The longest I leave my feeder's up before cleaning them out and refreshing is 1 week. That's during the spring and fall. Summer time, I start to notice cloudy solution in a few days. 1 of my feeder's is in direct sunlight though.

mine seldom get moldy here but we have very little humidity except durng storms. i soak mine in a pail of bleach water over night. i have several extras that i got at yard sales so there is always one up so they don't miss out of the necter.
