Male Rubythroat in Southern CT!!

So excited!! Finally saw my first 2008 hummingbird after so many cold months of waiting and longing. He was healthy and beautiful. He perched on a twiggy branch near the window feeder and I got a long look at him preening.

Of course now I'm worried because I haven't seen him for the past 15 minutes!

This sighting is 18 days earlier than last year, 3 days earlier than my feeder at home last year.

Good Luck to everyone else. They're coming and its worth the wait!

I live in Wilton and we have a male who arrived this past weekend. Each year, the males arrive within a day or two of May 1st, so this year they are ahead of schedule. I hope he brought a sweater as we have had two nights of frost!

Our male Ruby Throat is very territorial and chases all small birds in our yard. I heard his rapid-fire clicks while he chased other birds before I actually spotted him.

Always puts a huge smile on my face when the first ruby throat arrives. They will have plenty to feast on this year in my yard!
